Alice Kirchheim

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Alice Kirchheim has been Director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics IML since 2024 and is responsible for the Material Flow Systems division.

Michael Henke

Univ.-Prof. Dr. Dr. h. c. Michael Henke has been Director of Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics IML and Head of Corporate Logistics since 2013.

Section II: Enterprise Logistics

The focus is on an integrated view of internal and cross-company processes in their interaction with IT, technology, management and finance. For over 30 years, we have been researching and developing innovative solutions for the strategic development, tactical planning and operational control of companies and corporate networks in terms of comprehensive supply chain management.

Curriculum Vitae

Univ.-Prof. Dr. Dr. h. c. Michael Henke completes the board of directors of Fraunhofer IML as new director of the section Enterprise Logistics and he also holds the chair of Enterprise Logistics at the faculty of Mechanical Engineering at TU Dortmund University succeeding Prof. Dr.-Ing. Axel Kuhn who held both positions for twenty years and who took his well-deserved retirement last year. Henke, who held the Chair of Purchasing and Supply Management at EBS European Business School in Wiesbaden. Michael Henke began his career studying Brewing and Beverage Technology at the Technical University of Munich (Dipl.-Ing.). He gained his doctorate and habilitation in Business and Economics at the Technical University of Munich. During the last year of his habilitation Michael Henke was also working as senior consultant for the Supply Management Group SMG in St. Gallen, Switzerland. Since 2007 he was teaching and researching as professor at the EBS.

Uwe Clausen

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Uwe Clausen has been Director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics IML since 2001 and is responsible for Logistics, Transport and Environment.

 

Section III: Logistics, Transport and Environment

The institute supports companies in their environmental management providing concepts for recycling management using process-integrated prevention and recycling concepts. Support is also provided for dismantling and redistribution, including the entire information management of material flows and life cycle assessments.

Curriculum Vitae

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Uwe Clausen is director of the Institute for Transport Logistics at TU Dortmund University and director of Fraunhofer-Institute for Material Flow and Logistics IML. From July 2002 until July 2005 he was dean of the faculty of mechanical engineering at TU Dortmund University and from July 2005 until August 2008 he was vice dean of the very same faculty.

He studied computer sciences at the University of Karlsruhe (TH) and graduated at TU Dortmund University. After becoming head of the Traffic Logistics department at Fraunhofer IML, he worked for Deutsche Post AG as project manager for logistics and later on as managing director of the subsidiary IPP Paketbeförderung GmbH in Austria. In July 1999, he joined Amazon.de in Bad Hersfeld and, finally, he became European Operations Director at Amazon.com.
