The airport extension with taxiways to the new runway at Frankfurt Airport requires the reorganization of the processes for Road-Feeder-Services (RFS) and a new RFS-Truck-Dock-Facility at the Lufthansa Cargo Center (LCC) for the truck-handling of complete aircargo unit load devices.
From the reorganization over the planning up to the start-up of the facility the project center Aviation Logistics supported LCAG in all phases of the project. Besides the narrow timeframe and the high demands on planning for the generation of innovative solutions, the solemn inauguration of the facility took place on November 9th, 2010, just in time for the use during the seasonal peak.
Basing on a process analysis and an investigation of demands, the requirements were defined, the preferred variant was selected from different location and operating concepts as well as the detailed planning accomplished in close cooperation with the departments and by means of a user's requirement analysis. To support the placing the requirement specification and documents for tender for the conveyor technology were accomplished and offers were evaluated in a professionally profound manner. Upon the start-up Fraunhofer took on the task to prepare and accompany the function and performance tests.
The innovative solution is characterized by flexibility, high reserve capacities, redundancy and failure safety, avoidance of deadheads, weather protection for the operators, best linking to pre-carriage and follow-up processes as well as their decoupling through integrated buffers and an efficient security checkpoint.
